Name: Lakshmi Kavungal (pronounced LUHK-shimi KAH-vuhn-gull) (American nickname: Lucky)
Age: 26
Occupation: Social Worker
Manifestation: Sight. Lakshmi uses her special vision to see a person’s weak point, and uses it against them. Beyond that, her powers are limited only to especially sharp vision and the ability to see a colour called bee-purple, which is a colour in the upper ultraviolet spectrum that bees are able to see, hence the name. Human eyes can't see it.
Personality: Lakshmi is very withdrawn about herself. While she appears to be very social and nice when she’s off her job, she reveals precious little about herself, instead getting to know others. More of a listener than a talker, Lakshmi is highly intelligent, and is a woman of few words. She has a motherly temperament, especially around children or teenagers, and is generally mistrusting of people over 40 due to their lack of respect for her when she lived in India. When she’s on the job, she’s silent unless working with a partner, and even then she will usually only give whispered commands. She’s determined and hard working, and will always get the job done no matter what it costs to her or to any potential lawbreaker. Some call it ruthless; she calls it efficient.
Skills: Lakshmi comes from a group of acrobats, so she is highly flexible, quick on her feet, maneuverable, and has high endurance due to long performances. She can do flips and various gymnastic and dance moves, and her clear vision gives her a better idea of what she can do with her acrobatic abilities in any given situation. She also prides herself on being an excellent singer on her downtime, and has a mind gifted for mathematics.
Equipment: On her wrist at any given moment are two elastic hair ties. When she’s on duty, she carries a revolver with extra ammo, a Swiss Army Knife, a taser, and a fedora that she wears to keep her hair up and away from her face or from any who want to use it against her. She wears skin tight, flexible dark clothes, which allow her easy maneuverability and keep her hidden in the dark. And lastly, she wears a pair of dark sunglasses, both as a personal fashion statement and to hide the fact that her eyes are different.
When she is not on duty, Lakshmi likes to wear light-colored clothes, especially red, because red is such a vivid colour in her eyes.
Background: Lakshmi is from Kerala, India, and was born into a rich family. She received an exceptional education in mathematics despite the opening of the Fissure, believing that she was immune because nothing happened to her. But instead of pursuing a career in math or engineering, she moved to America and became a street performer in San Francisco. Her family cut her off and disrespected her after this shaming choice, as she clearly did this to rebel against the principles her family raised her to believe. Lakshmi joined an acrobat troupe, and earned the nickname Lucky after she did a dangerous backflip off a building wall and landed perfectly. After a while, her acrobat troupe was invited to perform on stage in an underground performance hall where entertainment still survived in these hard times—and soon after this performance debut, her own fissures appeared. At first, Lucky was not aware of this, but she soon found her vision changing. Her eyes, once a dark brown, had become a cold, icy blue, nearly gray. She found she could see extremely well, almost as if reading an intricate math problem and seeing a clear solution, and was able to see where all her friends were physically and mentally weak. This horrified her and she went out to find a pair of sunglasses to hide her eyes, but her troupe had already discovered her eyes and kicked her out. She was 24 at the time. Shortly after, Lucky came upon New Lancaster, and registered as a Manifest, requesting a job as a Social Worker. She demonstrated her abilities in acrobatics, and a doctor helped her find out her abilities with her new Sight. For the past two years, Lucky has been an active part of the law enforcement, but has lately tried to form relationships with others outside her Doctor and the other Social Workers.
Appearance: Lakshmi stands at 5’3” tall, and has long black hair that reaches her lower back. Before the Fissure, her eyes were wide, brown, and beautiful, the perfect pair of Indian girl eyes. After she was infected, a small rift appeared on both eyelids, very slight, but the true difference was the eye colour. From dark brown to cold, ice blue, practically overnight.
Due to her small frame, Lucky does not have much brawn on her side, so she uses quick movements and acrobatics in hand-to-hand combat. She has toned legs, arms, and stomach, and has a very pretty face which she will sometimes use simply to be charming. However, when her sunglasses come off, one can see the pale eyes and know that she is definitely different.
