I am the first person to submit a character! Now, let's see how badly I can screw this up.
Name: June
Age: 26
Occupation: Trainee at a laboratory/some kind of science facility (maybe the place where they produce the “cure” for the Manifested; they have to make it somewhere, right?)
Manifestation: Manifest of Sight, which gives her several abilities centered around visualization. When June has a mental image or is picturing something in “her mind’s eye,” she can use her ability to actually see and manipulate that image. This can be useful if she has to, say, work something out visually, because it allows her to lay things out more clearly than she ever could on actual paper. She can also abuse this power to give herself hallucinations or “highs” similar to the effects of using a drug like LSD, but she avoids doing this at all costs.
In some situations, she can take control of other people and distract them with their mental images, but this is very difficult for her and she expends a lot more energy when she does it. Also, it only works if their mental images actually are distracting or detrimental to the person who she’s trying to incapacitate. I can see her forming some sort of partnership with a Manifested who had mind-reading abilities; that way she would know when their minds were most vulnerable to her powers.
If June uses her abilities for too long, either on herself or on another person, then she’ll become “stuck.” This means that she (or the other person) will lose sight of the real world and have every thought converted into a visual image, causing severe hallucinations. She had this happen to her a few times when she was younger, and the state of being “stuck” lasted for days at one point; she assumes that if she was to exert herself too much, then it could last forever. There’s no exact time limit on how long she can use her abilities, but normally anything over 30 minutes puts her in danger of getting stuck.
Personality: Despite her ability, or perhaps because of it, June completely rejects fantasy or escapism of any kind in favor of logic and knowledge. She also doesn’t like people much, and by “much” I mean “at all.” These two traits have combined to give her the life goal of finding a treatment for the Manifested that would allow them to survive without the lifelong assistance of doctors. She’s a workaholic, and also a very fast-moving, efficient person. Her greatest frustrations occur when some part of her projects get hung up for some reason out of her control. She’s very impatient and bossy, so she also hates it when people refuse to do what she tells them to. However, she can be a very good leader in the right situations, she knows how to get things done and get them done on time, and she is aspiring to help people. For better or for worse, she’s quite thick-skinned, so insults and emotional matters in general seem to bounce right off of her most of the time.
Skills: She’s a strong leader, and quite intelligent. She knows a lot of science-y things, which can come in handy for various reasons. Whenever people are disorganized, you can always count on her to straighten things out. She’s not very physically adept, though, and in physical confrontations, she’ll always flee before she fights. Since she has the Manifest of Sight, her eyesight is also quite good.
Equipment: She always carries around a notebook in case she has an idea she wants to jot down or gets an extra moment to work. She also likes to have a pair of dark-tinted glasses with her most of the time, because she sometimes finds herself in situations where she doesn’t want people to see her fissures.
Background: June was about a year and a half old when the Fissure opened. Her parents fell ill within a couple of months, and they were taken away and put into quarantine. She hasn’t seen them since and has been forced to assume that they’re both dead. She was raised in a makeshift orphanage with a bunch of other kids who lost their parents to the sickness, many of whom later got sick themselves – including her. However, by the time she started showing symptoms when she was six, the “cure” had already been developed, and she wound up with Manifest of Sight.
As a little girl, she used to love using her abilities to put herself in fantasy worlds, but a few bad experiences scared her so much that she now rejects the idea of fantasy completely. She won’t allow herself to daydream or even read novels. She doesn’t get along very well with her Doctor (whoever that may be; I know we’re going to work that out later), mainly because she doesn’t take instructions well and hates being dependent on another person. That’s part of the reason why she wants to develop a more permanent treatment for the Manifested.
Appearance: Oh, boy. Er, I’d imagine something like this:
If you couldn’t tell by that uhmayzing picture, she’s supposed to be Asian-looking, and also not super-skinny. I wasn’t sure if the fissures should be internal or external, so I went for external simply because it was easier to see.
And that’s it.
