Name: Mack Villard
Age: 32
Occupation: Doctor
Manifestation: N/A
Personality: Although a little subdued, Mack is a tiny ray of sunshine under a big, dark cloud. Despite the difficulties that arose from the illness and his rare immunity to it, he pushes on and focuses on the present. He relies on his accomplishments to stay proud, and is often broken by any mishap that may have been his own fault, but is still prideful of his position. He's often second or third to jump in on an idea, as although he's very sure of himself, he's wary of situations that are not of his own creation, and thus relies on one or two other opinions to form one of his own. He's enthusiastic and tries to spread it. He's often aware of his surroundings and those in it, but can become easily sidetracked.
Skills: General knowledge of first-aid, general practitioner, uses his calm exterior to keep a patient from feeding off of his actual concern. Also knows general self-defense.
Equipment: He carries around general, small medical equipment (usually in his lab pockets), including medical wrap/bandages, latex gloves, and stitching equipment. He keeps a switchblade on him at all times--never knows when he'll need it, but just in case!--courtesy of his trinket-finding abilities.
Background: As a seven year-old experiencing the tear, not much had changed for Mack. Both of his parents were well, his non-existent siblings were doing grand, and all seemed fine despite the increase in odd deaths. It took a small while for his family to become infected, and just past his ninth birthday, his mother died of the Fissure. It wasn't until he was 12, when his father began showing signs of the illness, that Mack found it odd that he had been untouched despite the exposure. Although friends fell around him, although his pets cracked and mother's small garden turned to dust, he went on untouched by the odd markings. He was too distressed to pick up on his immunity, however, and spent much of his adolescence worrying--and, sometimes, hoping--that he, too, would soon die off. He also wandered a lot and went trinket-hunting as a way to keep himself distracted from the problem.
Eventually, he was discovered by rumor (he supposed, anyway), and taken in for screening and tests. After he was finally considered immune, he continued life as normally as a sixteen year old in the situation could, and kept much to himself. He turned to books and wondering of the disease to pass the time, and eventually became enamored in the oddity that had struck so much of the city, his parents and childhood friends included. He was 24 when he decided he wanted to not only know more of the Fissure, but aid those that had been infected or were at high risk of infection. He was taken under the wing with a few immune others to become a doctor, specifically wanting to aid in the field of diseases.
It took time, but he eventually battled his inner imbalance and settled for priding in himself. Despite the unfairness of his life being unaffected seemingly in turn of many dying, aiding in helping those who had a chance became some sort of calling to him.
He blames himself at times for the deaths of his parents, but he's been waking up to the fact that there was nothing he could have done to fix or save them.
It'll just take some more time to really accept the fact.
