Name: Natalie Estel
Age: 39
Occupation: Messenger
Manifestation: N/A
Personality: Natalie's outward personality is summed up with one phrase: "que sera sera" -- what will be, will be. However, with the tear set over her head at age 14, she does have some hard feelings about the past. With one parent consumed by the disease by the time she was 18, and the other just barely saved when she was 17, as well as one sibling driven into the Quarantine section of the city with her mother, she often has feelings of anger toward the city. Though she knows it's wrong, she somewhat blames the city for what's happened to her family and much of the population.
She covers this anger up by disconnecting herself. She tries hard not to get close to people because to her, many of them are too real about the situation that she's trying to avoid. This isn't necessarily true about everyone, but she doesn't want to get too close to others to find out. Her job doesn't require her to be constantly interacting with anyone, aside from usual orders.
Being pretty disconnected from people and reality, her attitude of "what will be, will be" more or less applies to the world she's building herself, rather than the one she's trying so hard to avoid. But, it keeps her alive, and that's all that matters to her.
Skills: She knows the city inside and out, what with her job being slightly demanding with the lack of technology. Considering that she's a "normal" social worker, she does have practice in self-defense and fighting.
Equipment: Messenger bag, armed with -- (need to think a little on this)
Background: Natalie's lived the general area of what is now New Lancaster all her life, and at first she didn't mind. She was relatively outgoing, still with her laid back attitude, but much more accepting of the life she was living. However, once the tear occurred, her simple life ended pretty quickly. With only her and an older sibling unaffected out of a family of five, there was much stress on the family life. After one parent passed away, and the other taken to Quarantine with a sibling, she felt like she had nothing before she hit 20.
As a normal, she needed a job, and went for messenger for the simplicity of it (of course, there was the training so she wouldn't get killed or be "less" than the manifested, but she took it in stride). Then, quickly, she began stripping away the reality of everything and tried her best to make everything normal again. She pretended not to notice the cracks on people's bodies. She pretended that there weren't people that could bend tools at their will, or have amazing strength, or talk to animals or read minds. She made these people as normal as she would will it.
She pretended doctors were normal and that their practices were just the usual. That the city wasn't totally split apart by who was sick and who was rare and immune. She made this world all by herself, and she lives in it every day, just trying to make everything the way it used to be and not needing to worry about everything.
Her pretending comes at a standstill at times. Mostly when she's at home alone and has nothing else to focus on. But she pushes on and accepts her pretending, despite growing older and witnessing the world change. Everything's too real, and still, pushing into later adulthood, she feels that she can't handle it.
Appearance: (just a sketch for now, she'll be colored and tidied up).
(still a little bit of a work in progress, sorry!)
